New Dwarf Plum varieties have been welcomed into the PlantNet® suite under the banner of the Backyard Beauties™ range

  • Satsuma Dwarf Plum  - Dwarf Satsuma is a popular variety of Blood Plum.It is a medium chill plum that is well known for its medium sized, round blood red flesh, delicious fruit, which ripens in January to February. Fruit is sweet and juicy with a dark red skin and has a cling stone with excellent cropping for inland and coastal areas. Cross pollination is required from Santa Rosa or Mariposa plums.
  • Mariposa Dwarf Plum - Dwarf Mariposa is another very sweet variety of Blood Plum. It is a round medium chill plum that is a heavy cropping variety which bears medium to large fruit in mid January. A sweet blood, red fleshed, free stone plum with unique, dark red speckled skin. Cross pollination from other plums such as Laroda, Narrabeen, Santa Rosa, Spring Satin Plumcot, or Satsuma Plums is required.
  • Narrabeen Dwarf Plum  - Dwarf Narrabeen is well known for its extra large premium quaulity fruit and heavy cropping. It is a medium chill plum variety that is extremely sweet and juicy. A yellow fleshed freestone plum with yellow skin which has an attractive red tinge covering it.This variety is a prolific bearer and is partially self fruitful but benefits from cross pollination from Marioposa, Laroda, Satsuma, or Santarosa plums.
  • Santa Rosa Dwarf  Plum  - Dwarf Santa Rosa is a popular medium chilling plum variety which produces round, medium sized, extra juicy fruit in December to mid January. This variety is a sweet tasting, yellow flesh, cling stone plum with dark red to purple skin colour with excellent cropping. This variety is partially self fruitful but will also benefit from pollination from Narrabeen, Mariposa, or Satsuma plums.
  • Gulf Ruby Dwarf Plum  - Dwarf Gulf Ruby is a popular variety of low chill plum. It produces large sized oval shaped fruit in coastal regions and round fruit in colder climates. Fruit harvests in coastal areas in November and colder climates in mid December.This variety has been selected  because it will crop in coastal areas. Gulf rupy requires cross pollination from another plum variety. For best pollination results next to Sunrise Gulf Plum. Only available from WA stockists.
  • Sunrise Gulf Dwarf Plum - Dwarf Sunrise Gulf has been selected by PlantNet as it it will crop in coastal areas and is an ideal pollination partner for Dwarf Gulf Ruby plum. It is a low chilling variety of plum well known for extra heavy cropping when planted next to Gulf Ruby for cross pollination. It is well known for its small, delightfully sweet, yellow fleshed, light red skinned, cling stone fruit, produced in mid November in coastal areas and mid December in colder climates. Only available from WA stockists.

 

  • Angelina Dwarf Plum -  is a variety of Plum which has been available in Australia for many years originating from Europe PlantNet® now makes it available as a dwarf variety of Plum. It is well known for its medium size fruit and extremely heavy cropping. Harvest begins in late January to early February. Thinning is required to obtain good fruit size. A very sweet Dark Purple Skinned Plum with yellow flesh. The variety being a prolific bearer will require staking. The variety is medium to high chilling and will require pollination by King Billy Plum, President Plum or another variety that flowers at the same time. Available from stockists in SA, TAS and NSW Winter .

 

  • King Billy Dwarf Plum- is a variety of Plum which has been available in Australia for many years originating from Europe. PlantNet® now makes it available as a dwarf variety of Plum. It is well known for its medium size fruit and crops lighter than some varieties, however it makes up for it in fruit size. Harvest begins in late January to early February. A very large dark Purple skinned fruit with sweet but slightly tangy, pale green to yellow flesh.  The variety is medium to high chilling and will require pollination by Angelina Plum or another variety that flowers at the same time. Available from stockists in SA, TAS and NSW Winter .
  • President Dwarf Plum -is a variety of Plum which has been available in Australia for many years originating from Europe. PlantNet® now makes it available as a dwarf variety of Plum. It is well known for its large fruit. Harvest begins in late February to early March. A deep Purple skinned, oval shaped fruit with sweet, yellow flesh. The variety is medium to high chilling and will require pollination by Angelia Plum or another variety that flowers at the same time. Available from stockists in SA, TAS and NSW Winter.
  • Coes Golden Drop Dwarf Plum -is a variety of Plum which has been available in Australia for many years originating from Europe. PlantNet® now makes it available as a dwarf variety of Plum. It is well known for its large fruit size. It harvests in late February to early March. An unusual oval shaped Plum which has a golden, to yellow skin covering a sweet light golden, yellow flesh. The variety is medium to high chilling and will require pollination by Green Guage or Cole's Golden Plum. Available from stockists in SA, TAS and NSW Winter .
  • Elephant Heart Dwarf Plum - Elephant Heart plum is a popular plum variety which has been available in Australia for many years. PlantNet® now makes it available as a DWARF variety of plum. It is a large fruit which has rounded, heart shaped fruit with red skin which has some speckles. It has light red, juicy flesh with a very distinct tang and aroma and harvests in mid February. It is a freestone. Suggested Pollinators: Narrabeen an Mariposa. Available from stockists in VIC, SA, TAS and NSW Winter.
  • Ruby Blood Dwarf Plum - is a popular plum variety which has been available in Australia for many years.  PlantNet® now makes it available as a DWARF variety of plum. It is a medium to large, round, heart shaped plum with dark red speckled skin with deep red sweet flesh that will harvest in late February to early March. Suggested Pollinators: Narrabeen, Mariposa and SatsumaAvailable from stockists in VIC, SA, TAS and NSW Winter.
  • Damson is a Plum variety, which has been available in Australia for many years. PlantNet® now makes it available as a dwarf variety of Plum. It produces small, round fruit with purple skin and is firm with very sweet yellow flesh, which has a slight tartness. The fruit is free stone with fruit harvesting in mid-February. The variety being a prolific bearer will require staking. It is considered self-fertile so does not require another variety for pollination purposes.

  • Green Gage is a Plum variety, which has been available in Australia for many years. PlantNet® now makes it available as a dwarf variety of Plum. It is an upright spreading tree, which has medium sized round fruit, greenish yellow skin and flesh with a very sweet flavour. The fruit is freestone and harvests in early February. It is pollinated by Golden Drop plum. Available from stockists in VIC, SA, TAS and NSW Winter.

  • Donsworth is a Plum variety, which has been available in Australia for many years. PlantNet® now makes it available as a dwarf variety of Plum. Fruit size is large. The fruit is slightly oval with a dark pink to red skin depending on maturity. It has light red, juicy flesh, which is soft when fully mature. Fruit has a clingstone with a nice sweet flavour, which harvests in mid-January. Pollination is required from Mariposa, Narrabeen or Santa Rosa Plums. Available from stockists in VIC, SA, TAS and NSW Winter.

 All varieties are Ideal for eating fresh, stewing, preserving or making jam.

These trees will need staking when young as they crop very heavily. These varieties certainly fit into the Backyard Beauties Range and would be a great edition in anyone's garden.

Plant them in a tub or a large pot for easy gardening.  Not to mention a guarantee the kids will love them!
